As part of the Engine Room programme, a dynamic initiative supporting the development of new writing for theatre, a recent workshop brought together creatives eager to better understand their place in today’s digital landscape. The session was led by Patricio How, Trustee at Omnibus Theatre and Digital Senior Editor at the National Theatre, London, whose experience sits at the intersection of theatre, storytelling, and digital strategy.

Patricio led an engaging and practical discussion on digital footprint and personal branding, encouraging participants to actively own their digital narrative rather than letting it form by default. He shared insights into how artists can think strategically about visibility, consistency, and intention online — using digital platforms not as distractions, but as tools that serve specific creative goals and long-term ambitions.

Central to the workshop was the idea that the current digital media landscape, while crowded and fast-moving, offers powerful opportunities when approached with clarity and purpose. Patricio emphasised the importance of aligning online presence with artistic values, and of making conscious choices about where, how, and why work is shared.

The lecture was thoughtfully organised by Sam Pout and Hannah Petch, and welcomed creatives from a wide range of backgrounds, disciplines, and career stages. From early-career artists to those developing ongoing projects, the session fostered an open exchange of perspectives, reinforcing the Engine Room programme’s commitment to nurturing talent, dialogue, and sustainable creative practice.
